Abraham Ball was born in Staffordshire, England.
Abraham was born in 1848[1] in Lane Head, Staffordshire, England. He was the son of John Ball and Caroline Smith and was baptised in Willenhall, Staffordshire.[2][3]
The family lived in Willenhall, where Abraham's father was a provision dealer[4] and publican.[5] At the time of the 1871 census Abraham worked as a servant for the Leeson family in the city of Birmingham, Warwickshire.[6]
In 1873 Abraham married Sarah Ann Marrah.[7][8][9] By 1881 the family lived in Walsall, Staffordshire, and Abraham was a bricklayer.[10]
The Balls emigrated to the United States around 1884 and settled first in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Abraham was a steel worker, before moving to Philadelphia and then Fall Hollow near Braddock. The family returned to the UK around 1896.[11]
In 1901 Abraham was once again working as a bricklayer in Willenhall.[12] He had retired by 1911, when he and Sarah Ann lived in Prees, Shropshire.[13]
Sarah died in 1919 at the age of 65.[14] Abraham died in 1931 at the age of 83.[15]
