Newman Taylor Baker is a noted jazz drummer, composer, and washboardist. He created "Washboard XT", a unique combination of using the washboard with other visual, voice and sound effects.

'Newman was born in 1943 in Petersburg, Virginia. He is the son of Thomas Baker and Ruth Taylor. He received a bachelor's degree from Virginia State University, and later a Master of Music Education from East Carolina University.

Newman married Patricia Perrin in 1964 in Virginia.

Newman is still living as of 2022.
