Sarah was born about 1844 at Raoul Island, Kermadec Islands, New Zealand. Sarah was the child of Daniel Baker and Noa Unknown[1].
Sarah was about 4 years old when the family shifted from Raoul Island to Mangonui in Northland, New Zealand. During her childhood she lived with her family in a house built by her Father in Mill Bay.
She married George Kelly on 27 June 1862 in Mangonui. The marriage took place at her Mother Noa's home in Mill Bay[2] and they had eight children together.
It appears she was close to her Mum and was still living in Mangonui when her Mother died on 18 June 1873. It was not until 1882 she left Mangonui because her husband George was transferred to Napier to take up his position as a Native Interpreter.
Sarah passed away on 7 December 1897 at the age of 53 in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand[3] and was buried at Old Napier Cemetery[4].
