Una Madge Baker was born in 1901, in Mudgee, New South Wales, Australia. Her parents were Owen Baker and Laura Kennedy.[1]

James Carroll, Una's husband, was a Plumber. He was declared bankrupt in 1931 and further legal action was taken in 1934 when Carroll gave proceeds from a job to instal a septic system at the Bundaberg Post Office to his brother-in-law, Mr Baker of Bundaberg.
A news article stated:
'The bankrupt, however, said in evidence that the arrangements for the assignment (of money to Baker) had been made some time before the bankruptcy notice was received.
The examination of the bankrupt was closed, and that of the witnesses adjourned sine die.'[3]
