Biography

Birtis B. Bailey is a part of US Black heritage.

Birtis B. Bailey aka B. B., was born on 21 Mar 1906 according to his draft registration card, in Decatur, Mississippi. ^[1] (Please see Research Note) He was the youngest of four sons of Sal and Sarah Bailey.

In the 1910 census Birtis (age 3) was the son of Sal Bailey in Beat 3, Newton, Mississippi, United States.^[2]

In the 1920 census Birtis (age 12) was the son of Sol Bailey in Beat 1, Newton, Mississippi.^[3]

Birtis married Jerutha Unknown Bailey around 1929.

In the 1930 census Birtis (age 23), Teacher, was the married head of household on Golf Street, Merigold, Bolivar, Mississippi, United States.^[4]

Birtis was a teacher at White Cloud School in Bolivar County. He stated this in a military record on 16 October 1940 in Merigold, Bolivar, Mississippi, United States.^[5]

Birtis was also the pastor of Second Baptist Church in Rome; Union Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland; St. Mary Baptist Church in Ruleville and Oakland Olive Baptist Church in Drew at the his death. ^[6]

Birtis died (age 65) in August 1971 residing at 38762, Mound Bayou, Bolivar, Mississippi, United States.^[7]He was buried in Hearon Cemetery, Mound Bayou, Bolivar County, Mississippi.^[1]

Birtis' obituary was published in the The Delta Democrat-Times on 3 September 1971 in Greenville, Mississippi.^[8]
