Biography

Clarence was born on September 7, 1905, in Lawrence County, Tennessee. He was the first son of James Bailey and Ora Sandy.

He lived in Tennessee until the mid-forties,[1]when he moved his family to California. He worked as a farm laborer during his youth[2] and as an odd jobs laborer during his later years.[3] He attended school up to the sixth grade.

Clarence married Rosa Lee Melton on September 30, 1933, in Lawrence County.[4] She was the daughter of General Melton and Edith Mayer. Both Clarence and Rosa were living in Leoma at the time.

Clarence was registered in the United States World War II Draft on October 16, 1940. He was described as having brown hair, gray eyes, and a dark complexion. Additionally he was 68" tall and 138 pounds.[5]

He passed away on November 21, 1957, in Tulare County, California.[6] He was buried in the Visalia Public Cemetery.[7]
