Research Notes

Issue about identity. It seems doubtful that John M "Sank" Baham is the son of Abraham Honore Baham and Adeline Reed. His 1864 birth date, based on his headstone and estimates from census records, puts his birth impossibly close to a supposed sibling Thomas. The only record found that cites these parents is his Findagrave memorial,[1] which is unsourced.

Looking at the earliest census records for the household of Abraham and Adeline Baham, "John L" was age 10 and his brother "Thomas O" was age 6 in 1870. In 1880 they were ages 20 and 17. This seems clear that John's birth date is probably closer to 1860, not 1864. Since there are lots of Bahams in the area, and John is a common name, the middle initial of L on the census is an important clue that should not be discounted.

Reviewing FamilySearch and Ancestry records, a death certificate[7] was found for "John Baham" with matching death date, very close birth date [a few days off], and the informant was Edith Ard, which matches the name of a daughter connected to John M. So this appears to be John M's death certificate. The parents on the death certificate are given as JASPER BAHAM and RUSEU [Reesen/Rusen/Reeseu?] BAHAM.

Based on this, it seems proper to detach parents Abraham and Adeline from John M Baham-4, and create/attach Jasper Baham and Ruseu Unknown as his parents. Unfortunately, no additional record has been found of Jasper and Ruseu.

A profile exists on WikiTree for a John L Baham-549 with a more likely birth date, but parents have not been proven for him so he should not be attached as a child of Abraham and Adeline without further evidence. Lacking such evidence, a new profile may need to be created for John L to attach to the family of Abraham and Adeline Baham.

"Sank" or "Cinq"-- as in "5" in French ? Same pronunciation, and with a name like John, Cinq seems highly probable.
