Biography

Menno was born in 1853, the son of Christian Baechler and Barbara Oesch.

Menno was married to Magdalena in 1877. Their marriage record reads as follows:

Menno Baechler, 23, residing and born in Hay Township, Huron County, bachelor, farmer, son of Christian and Barbara Baechler, married

Magdalena Kropf, residing and born in the Township of Wilmot, spinster, daughter of Henry and Anna Kropf,

Witnesses: Christian Wagler and Jacob Kropf, both of the Township of Wilmot in the County of Waterloo,

On the 17th day of April 1877, at the residence of Jacob Boshart, in the Township of Wilmot. Married by John Gascho, Minister of the Mennonite Church or Society.

Together they had the following children:

1. Mary, born January 15, 1878
2. Anne, born February 8, 1880
3. Solomon, born in 1884, married Leah Schwartzentruber
4. Alvina, born October 31, 1894

Menno died on May 5, 1936 in Hay Township, Huron County, Ontario. He was born in Ontario on October 29, 1853, the son of Christian Baechler, born in Germany, and Barbara Oesch, born in Ontario. The informant on his death record was his son, Solomon, of RR # 2, Zurich, Ontario. His causes of death included bronchopneumonia, acute bronchitis, hypertension, and paralysis of throat muscles from cerebral hemorrhage.

Menno and Magdalena were buried at Lakeview Conservative Mennonite Cemetery, in Zurich, Ontario.
