Biography

Lorenzo Badami is born around May 1857 in Corleone, the son of Gioachino Badami and Angela Arsena, who married in 1845. He is named after his paternal grandfather.

Lorenzo marries at least twice, first to Lucia Pomilla, daughter of the late Leoluca Pomilla and Arcangela Cutrone, on 4 September 1876.^[1]

Open Issue: Another Lorenzo Badami is Lorenzo's double first cousin, the son of Giuseppe Badami and Calogera Arsena. The other Lorenzo marries Lucia's sister, Calogera Pomilla, in 1881.

Lorenzo and Lucia have at least thirteen children, seven whose names are known: Angelina (c. 1880), Giacomo (1885), Leoluchina (1893), Leoluca (c. 1895), Frances (c. 1896), Lucia (1898), and Lucina (probably also baptized Leoluchina) (c. 1900).

Giacomo is baptized 7 October 1885 in Corleone.^[2]

Leoluchina is born on 23 December 1893 in Manhattan.^[3]

Leoluca dies in infancy on 7 April 1895 in Manhattan.^[4]

Frances dies 29 July 1896, also in infancy, in New York.^[5]

Lucia is born in New York on 3 August 1898 and baptized at the Chiesa di Sant'Agata on 14 August 1898.^[6] Her godparents are Lucia Badami and Antonino Connors.^[7]

In the 1900 federal census of the Bronx, NY, taken 4 June, Lorenzo Badamo, born in May 1857, age 43, heads a household at 575 East 149th St with his wife, Lucia, born in May 1856, age 44, and children Angelina, 20, born July 1880, Giacomo, 15, born September 1884, Lucie, 3, born February 1897, and Lucina, born in May 1900. Lorenzo and Lucia have been married for 24 years. Lucia has had 13 children, four of them living. They and the two older children were born in Italy, and the two youngest children were born in New York. Lorenzo emigrated in 1887. He is a peddler. His wife and children came in 1890. Angelina is a tailor and Giacomo is a peddler.^[8]

By 1908, Lorenzo's first wife has died, and he has returned to Corleone.

Lorenzo remarries to Maddalena lo Bue, daughter of the late Vincenzo lo Bue and Antonia Todaro, and widow of Giuseppe Territo, on 27 June 1908 in Corleone. His parents have died by this time.^[9]
