In 1910, François-Juliette's husband Henri snuck away with their three children while she was away at Mass... and boarded trans-Atlantic ship, headed for Canada. My grandfather also told me, François-Juliette did follow her husband and children to Canada later that year. But when she arrived, her mother-in-law and others were cruel to her, hiding her baby, Henri III, from her, and finding ways to make life even more difficult. François-Juliette appears in the 1911 census with them, but soon after, she is gone. The couple divorced and she returned to France where she lived about 20 more years before dying in poverty.
