Francois Babin, a son of Francois Marie Babin and Marie Anne Use, was born on 5 October 1799 in Louisiana, New Spain. He was baptized 3 May 1800 at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.[1]
He married Eliza Euphrosyne Martin, daughter of Joseph Martin and Marie Natalie Charpentier, in a civil ceremony on 20 August 1821 at the Thibodaux Courthouse in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.[2]
Their marriage was blessed at St. Joseph's Church in Thibodaux on 18 February 1822.[3]
1850 Census, Carrollton, Jefferson, Louisiana; F. Babin, age 49, with wife and children.[5]
Household Role Sex Age Birthplace
- F Babin Male 49 Louisiana
- Elize Babin Female 30 [sic, 50?] Louisiana
- Guillaume Babin Male 20 Louisiana
- Auguste Babin* Male 17 Louisiana
- Justine Babin* Female 17 Louisiana
- Marguerite Babin* Female 15 Louisiana
- Clorinde Babin* Female 13 Louisiana
- Emilie Babin* Female 10 Louisiana
*Note: The children starting with Auguste were indexed with the Grimes surname, but this appears to be incorrect. The confusion comes from an interpretation of a word which follows the name of Auguste but in very light pen, seemingly entered after the list was written, and almost looks like it could be "Junius." Otherwise, the age pattern of the children looks like it is a list of Babin children.
