Biography

Asa was born in New York. He married Phebe Trask and had a family with her. [1]

In 1830 Asa resided at Busti in Chautauqua County near Peleg Trask. Asa appears to have a younger bride and one child. [2]

By 1840 his family is growing. [3]

In 1850 , Phebe and Asa G. Babcock, reside with their children still at Busti, New York. They live next to Hansen Trask who may be a relation to Phebe. [4] Later they would relocate to Pennsylvania.

By 1870 much of the family has relocated to Rockdale, Crawford, Pennsylvania residing on three adjacent farms. Asa has one, and what appear to be son William and son Isaiah/Josiah each have a households as well. [5] Asa and Phebe have a daughter "Nettie" who was born in Pennsylvania, as does William suggesting that the family had moved at least by 1855. William had relocated around 1851 according to the "History of Crawford County." Grandmother Phebe Babcock resides with William. [6]

Asa G Babcock sold many parcels of land in Chautauqua County in 1844 , 1851 and 1852. [7] [8]

Asa's children are named in his son's obituary. [9]

Note: Middle initial "G" is thought to stand for Gifford. His father is thought to be Isaiah Jordan Babcock Sr. of Pennsylvania and mother Pheobe Gifford. Family associated with Mill Village, Erie Co., PA. Babcock may have been his adoptive step father, though. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YB3-115?i=8&cc=1803958&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AXHPW-83M
