William James Kenneth Ayres was born on 8 October 1913 in Yarram, Victoria, Australia, the son of Therese Ayres and Robert Ayres.[1]
27 October 1939, William enlisted in the Australian Army; Service Number: VX2081[2][3]. He was assigned to the 6th Division Australian Army Service Corps AMN Company, attained the rank of Private, saw service in Greece, Egypt and Northern Territory, Australia and was discharged on 23 April 1943.
26 April 1943, William enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force; Service Number: 437583[4][5]. He was assigned to the 1 Embarkation Depot, attained the rank of Aircraftman 2 but was discharged on 29 June 1943.
He passed away on 25 August 1998 and his ashes were scattered at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery[6].
