Warren J. Ayer, Sr., of Leesburg, Florida, died unexpectedly at his home on May 1, 2009 ^[1]. Warren was born on August 14, 1926 in Endicott, New York, the son of the late Carl Hested Ayer and the late Sarah Mary (Davies) Ayer. He graduated from Union Endicott High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army ^[2] during the later stages of World War II. He returned to Endicott, where he was employed by International Business Machines (IBM) in various capacities until his retirement in 1984. He married Lois Marie Sackett on January 24, 1948 and they made their residence in Newark Valley, New York, in the home they designed and built. Together they had two sons and were longtime members of the Newark Valley First United Methodist Church. They enjoyed dancing, boating on New York's Finger Lakes, and later, land cruising to Florida in the motor home Warren designed and built. Lois predeceased him following their 54th wedding anniversary in January, 2002. Warren was an accomplished musician, playing both cornet and in later years, the guitar, while his paintings grace the homes of his grandchildren. Warren was a past commander of the Susquenango Power Squadron in Binghamton, New York, was a past master (1983) of the Speedsville-Newark Valley Lodge No. 265 of Masons, a past member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Owego, New York, and more recently, a member of the Silverlake Community Church in Leesburg, Florida. Warren is survived by his fiancé, Irene (Jones) Spring of Burlington, Ontario, Canada; his two sons, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three half brothers. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois; and his sister, Norma Jean Virun.
