Olga Sears It is with great sadness that we, the family of Olga Sears, announce her death May 26, 2011 at the Centennial Villa. Born on September 6, 1920, in Amherst, Olga was the only daughter of Helen Stephanie Fuller and R.Corey Ayer. Her younger brother Harry predeceased her at the age of 17. Olga grew up in Amherst, where she graduated from Amherst Regional High School and the St. Charles Business Academy. Olga married her beloved husband Weymond Sears in 1941, and they had 67 happy years together, before he passed away in 2008. Olga was a very sociable woman. She loved a good spirited conversation and liked to see the humour in situations. She was involved for many years in community activities and organizations. She and Weymond loved music and dancing, playing bridge, skiing, skating, and badminton. They were leaders in the Amherst figure skating and badminton clubs. Community service was a priority with Olga and she gave her time generously to a number of causes. She was instrumental in launching the Amherst Head Start day care program. Over the years, she held various offices in the I.O.D.E. ,Tantramar chapter, and was a life time member. A devout Christian, Olga was a long time member of Christ Church. Church was an important part of her life and she enjoyed contributing her time and talent to ACW, Altar guild and readings for services. She was highly supportive of her husband Weymond as a lay reader. Her strong ability in writing and deep study of scripture were evident in many of his sermons. Olga’s many interests included writing, reading, doing crosswords and playing scrabble. She participated in these and other activities at the Centennial Villa up until her last days. Olga loved her family. She was proud of them and gave her enthusiastic support to her children in their artistic endeavours: Michael with music lessons and festival participation, Stephen with his figure skating shows and competitions, and encouraging Christopher’s artistic ability and pursuit of studies at NSCAD. She was equally proud of and supportive of her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica and Andrea. Some of her happiest times and memories were of times spent with family at the family cottages at Amherst Shore and Tidnish. Olga will be missed greatly by her friends and family – her 3 sons: Michael (Carol), Fredericton, Stephen (Lesley), Halifax, Christopher (Debra), Toronto; and three grandchildren: Jonathan (Thea), Winnipeg; Jessica, Victoria; Andrea, Halifax. The family would like to thank the Centennial Villa, Jean Fawthrop, and staff for their care, and kindness over the past three years. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at Amherst Christ Church Anglican at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1st, followed by a reception for friends and family at the church and interment at Christ Church Cemetery. Donations in Olga’s memory may be made to Amherst Christ Church, or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home 667-9906, www.campbellsamherst.ca[3]
