Early Life

Her birth and parentage are uncertain; however, there are three baptismal records in Wiltshire that potentially represent her. One potential match is the Bety Axford baptized by Thomas Axford on 13 November 1743 in Dilton, Wiltshire,^[1] only five miles from Warminster. She is also potentially the Betty Axford baptized by Elizabeth Axford on 26 June 1742 in Bratton, Wiltshire,^[2][3] approximately 7 miles from Warminster. Additionally, she is potentially the Elizabeth baptized by Henry and Elizabeth Axford in Amesbury, Wiltshire on 26 December 1740,^[4][5] approximately 20 miles from Warminster. This Elizabeth was the youngest of their four children that appear in the Amesbury parish registers.^[6] Her siblings were John,^[7][8] Elizabeth,^[9][10] and Sarah.^[11][12] It appears that her oldest sister, Elizabeth, died before her birth.

Marriage and Family

She resided within the parish of Warminster at the time of her marriage. She married Richard Hiscutt of Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire by banns on 3 November 1760 in the Parish Church of Warminster, Wiltshire, England in the Diocese of Salisbury.

Records exist for two children born to Elizabeth and Richard in Longbridge Deverill, Wiltshire:

No death records have been identified for Elizabeth.

Research Notes

No potential baptismal records were found for Elizabeth in Warminster searching FamilySearch (GS Film Number 1279363). No parish register records for Elizabeth were located at FreeReg. At the Wiltshire OPC Project site, parish register transcriptions for Longbridge Deverill (marriages only) did not contain any records for Elizabeth, and transcriptions do not exist for Warminster. Reviewing Prerogative Court of Canterbury wills (PROB 11) at the National Archives for Axford and Hiscutt in Wiltshire did not reveal any obvious entries for Elizabeth. Likewise, no obvious will entries appear on Ancestry in Wiltshire, England, Wills and Probate, 1530-1858. Additionally, no obvious entries for Elizabeth were found with an advanced search of Axford in Warminster or Amesbury in the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives. Two Elizabeth Hiscutts were buried in Norton Bavant, Wiltshire: one in 1805 and one in 1812; however, there is currently no clear evidence that either of these Elizabeths represent the same individual in this profile.
