Biography

• Jennie was born in 1856 in Lafayette, Indiana.
• In 1860 she was living with her parents, younger brother, a cousin, and 3 domestics. Her father is a druggist.
• Her mother died in 1871.
• In 1880 she is living on 7th Street with her father and 4 younger siblings and is keeping house.
• On January 31, 1883, she married Edmond Troughton in Layfayette.
• They had 6 children. Charles Avery (1884-1942); Edmund Seymour (1886-1908), Fred W. (1888-1952), Charlotte Louise (1891-1988), her twin Alice who died at birth; and Martha (1897-1964).
• In 1900 they are living on Myrtle Avenue, Kankakee City, Illinois, with their 5 children, and her husband is a bookkeeper.
• In 1910 they are living in Lee , Virginia, with their 3 youngest children. Her husband is now a farmer and her son Fred is a farm laborer.
• In 1920 she is a widow and living with her married daughter, Charlotte T. Corner, on Ball Hill Road, McLean, VA. Her grandson, Tom Corner, remembers her as being "very Jolly. She raised the kids while Mother worked, tutoring students."
• In 1940 she is living with her youngest daughter, Martha Riley, who is married and living in the country off Route 66 in Clarion, PA.
• She died on June 5, 1943, in Clarion, PA. of acute endocarditis due to cerebral hemorrage. *She had several obits. One says that she lived in McLean for 20 years before moving to Clarion, that she was a direct descendant of Elder William Brewster, and that she was active in the Lewinsville, McLean Presbyterian Church. The other obit says that she was a graduate of Wells college in Aurora, NY.
• She was buried next to her husband in Bealton, Virginia.
