This Theophilus Avery was born [1] 22 Jun 1753 in Groton, New London, Connecticut. He was the tenth and final child of Theophilus Avery and Elizabeth Billings.
Theophilus Avery served in the Revolutionary War, Capt. Lemuel Lamb's company, 2nd regiment, Conn. light horse, 1779-80.
He married first, about 1783 @ Groton, Connecticut, Sabra Andrews, daughter of Samuel Andrews. They had 8 children, born at Ledyard:
After the death of his first wife, Sabra (5 May 1814), Theophilus Avery married second, Mrs. Susan (Kelley) Ripley.
This family was enumerated in the 1790 census at New London [2]. In the 1820 and 1830 Theophilus Avery was recorded in Groton [3],[4].
Theophilus Avery died 10 Feb 1839 in Ledyard, New London County, Connecticut. His grave is in Edward Avery Cemetery, Ledyard, Connecticut [5].
