Biography

Birth

Nothing is known of the ancestry of Polly Austin. In the 1850 Census, she is shown (as Polly Knox) as 62 years old, born in Massachusetts.^[1] Based on her age at her death from her cemetery record, she was born about March 1787.

Marriage

On 17 Nov 1817, the town clerk of Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), certified that "an intention of marriage between Mr. Stacy D. Knox of Livermore and Miss Polly Austin of Jay hath ben [sic] entered with me fourteen days prior to this date and ben [sic] published in the Town of Livermore as the Law directs."^[2] The intention had also been published at Jay seven days earlier, with the prospective bride identified as Mrs. Polly Austin.^[3] On 24 Jan 1826, administration on the estate of Stacy D. Knox, late of Livermore, Maine, was granted by the probate court of Oxford County, Maine, to Polly Knox of Livermore, widow.^[4]

Death

In 1850, Polly Knox was living at Livermore, Maine.^[1] A record in the Nathan Hale Cemetery Collection says that she died on 23 Jan 1859 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and is buried at the Goding Cemetery in Livermore.^[5]
