Phillip Atwood[1] [2] emigrated in 1635 (on either the Planter or the "Susan and Ellen) and resided initially in Charlestown, before settling in Malden, Massachusetts. He was identified as of Concord in 1875 when he purchased land in Worcester, Massachusetts. (But no other record supports a Concord residence; previous to the Worcester purchase, he was always of Malden.) He was in Bradford by 1700 when and where he died.

Anderson does not identify any place of birth, so we need a source for the claim he was born in Chancery Lane, London, England. His death record identifies him as in his 85th year (i.e., 84 years old), calculating back to a birth year closer to 1616, if accurate. (Death records from this time period often inflated age at death.)

He married first by 1653, Rachel, daughter of William Bachelor (sometimes spelled Batchelor). She died in Malden on 7 Nov 1674.

He married second in Malden 7 Apri 1675 Elizabeth Grover who died in Malden in October 1676.

He married third another Elizabeth, surname unknown, who died in Malden 3 April 1688.

"Phillip Atwood, Malden 1653, came from London in the Susan and Ellen, 1635, aged 13, or in the Planter, aged 12, for, I suppose, by the doub. entry only one boy is meant, had Rachel, b. Aug. 1653; Mary, Jan. 1656; Philip, Sep. 1658; Abigail, Dec. 1662; Eliz. Aug. 1669; and Oliver, Apr 1671; all prob. by w. Rachel, d. I judge, of William Bachiler of Charlestown, wh. d. 5 Feb. or 7 Nov.1674, the same rec. in Geneal. Reg. X. 241, coming from a most scupulous hand, giv. both dates. He m. 7 Apr 1675, Eliz. Grover, wid. of Thomas, and she d. 3 Apr 1688. His d. Eliz. m. 26 Nov foll. Philip Fowle. Perhaps he liv. some yrs. at Bradford." Savage, Vol.1, p.78.*
