Biography

George Attfield was born 15 Aug 1804 in Guildford. He was the illegitimate son of Ann Attfield. He was christened on 26 Aug 1804 at St Nicholas' Church in Guildford (Anglican).

George became a labourer. He married Elizabeth Lucas on 5 Dec 1835 at Holy Trinity Church in Guildford (Anglican). Neither had been married before; the witnesses were William Hackman and Hannah Botting.

George died on 23 Jan 1867, aged 63 (according to the death registration and gravestone) or 66 (according to the burial record, which also spells his surname Atfield), at his home in Farncombe. He was buried on 29 Jan 1867 in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section. Two-year-old George Atfield was buried the next year in the same grave.

Elizabeth died on 8 Dec 1884, aged 68, at her home in Northbourne, Godalming. She was buried on 12 Dec 1884 in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section, not far from her husband.
