Research notes

Finsthwaite is in Cumbria, a long way from the Ouse Valley in Yorkshire.

Looking on FreeREG, Family Search, Ancestry and FreeBMD I have been unable to identify a reasonable birth, and can see no reason why he has been given these parents (search 17/7/2020). FreeBMD has two deaths registered in Thirsk which are possible.

One potential baptism is Marske in Cleveland : St Mark : Register of unspecified type : "Parish Register" database, FreeREG (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/58189e5ee93790eca37c9079 : viewed 18 Jul 2020) baptism William Atkinson 23 May 1764 - which may make him a relation of John Atkinson.
