Simon Atkins is Notable.

Simon Green Atkins was the founder and first president of Winston-Salem State University and founded the North Carolina Negro Teachers' Association in 1881.[1]

Simon Green Atkins was born into slavery in 1863.

He died in 1934 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.[2]
