When Mary was 10 years old she was enumerated on the 1900 United States Census. She was living in the household of her parents which was located in River Hill, Clarke County, Alabama.[1]
Mary's mother died shortly after the 1900 Census was taken. Her father remarried in about 1904. When the 1910 United States Census was taken, Mary was living with her father, her stepmother, and various other family members in River Hill, Clarke County, Alabama. Mary was recorded as being 18 years old.[2]
Mary Ida Atchison and Simeon Beckham York were married on about 11 December 1912 in Clarke County, Alabama.[3][4] They were the parents of 6 children. Five of the children were named in an affidavit her cousin Edmond Messer Gilchrist submitted in 1935 for a case involving a the question of the ownership of land in Texas. His statement outlined his relations. "...Mandy Gilchrist married J. Bart Atchinson and died leaving the following heirs, to-wit: Joe L. Atchinson, Mary Ida Atchinson York, Neva Atchinson Stringer, James T. Atchinson; that all of her children are living except Mary Ida York, who died and left five children, to-wit: Louise York, S. B. York, William [letter which cannot be read] York, Kathleen York, Mertie York..."[5] The child omitted from the affidavit was Nora Lee York who had died when she was 7 years old.
Mary and Sim York were enumerated as a married couple on the 1920 United States Census. Three of their children and Sim's widowed mother were also members of the household. They were all living on College Avenue in Jackson, Clarke County, Alabama.[6]
Mary Ida (Atchison) York died on 21 November 1925 at the age of 34. She was buried in River Hill Cemetery, Clarke County, Alabama.[7]
