Charles Ashton was born in about 1860 in England, United Kingdom, son of Henry Ashton (~1830– ) and Rebecca Unknown (~1830– ).

Charles (27) married Phoebe Rebecca Potts (23) (born about 1864 in Northumberland, Canada West; daughter of Stephen S Potts and Harriet (Stollory) Potts) on June 18, 1888 in Seymour, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada.^[1] Their known children were:

1. William Henry Ashton (1891-1918)
2. George Stephen Ashton (1892-1940)
3. Nellie Harriet (Ashton) Lockhart (1893-1981)

In 1891 Charles Ashton (age 28, Cheesemaker) lived in Seymour with his wife Phebe R (27) and son William Henry (1).^[2]

Charles passed away before 1901, presumably in Seymour.

In 1901 Charles' widow Phebe R Ashton (37) and their three children - William H (11), George S (10), and Nellie H (7) - lived in Seymour in the household of Phebe's father Stephen Potts (67, Farmer).^[3]

Charles' widow remarried in 1903.
