Biography

Joseph Ashton Jr's specific birth date and location are unknown. Most sources show 1682 in PA because he's documented "of age" in 1703. However, Joseph is documented buying land in 1698; normally a person had to be 21 to own/purchase land. IF he was b 1682, he would be too young. This suggests he was b no later than 1677, and if this is true, he was most likely born in England, and immigrated with his parents. This actually makes more sense, too, because his eldest daughter Jane was b ca 1696.
