Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Isaac Arnold Sr was a Virginia colonist.

Isaac Arnold is estimated to have been born about 1685 in (old) Rappahannock County, Virginia. He is believed to be a son of Thomas and Grace Arnold of Gingoteague Creek.

His first wife was Margaret Goff. Their children were Isaac, Thomas, Benjamin, William, Sarah, Isabell and James.

He was then married to Mary and they were the parents of Diana, Elizabeth, Mary, Jemimah, Susanna and Mark.

By May of 1758, he had died in Hanover Parish, Virginia.

Notes

Isaac was married twice and had 13 (?) children. The exact timeline of birthdates for the offspring and the death of Margaret is fuzzy. Margaret is presumed to have died no later than 1719 after a 12 year marriage at most.

Isaac's Will names 10 children. Thomas who is known to have died before Isaac, is not mentioned. James who is on the list of children, is also not named. Do we know where he comes from? Jemimah was left off of Isaac's Will, but is named in Mary's.

Mark, whose birthdate of 1739 is stated in Isaac's Will. He is not mentioned in Mary's though she makes a blanket gift of one shilling to "all the rest of my children." Morton-7125 04:28, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Old Rappahannock County had ceased to exist by 1692 leaving Essex and Richmond Counties in its place. In 1720, King George County formed out of Richmond.

Y-DNA

Paternal lineage confirmed via y-DNA testing with ftDNA. Bruce Arnold, a descendant of Joseph Arnold (abt.1765-abt.1849), matches to Elvin Arnold, a descendant of James Arnold (1770-aft.1830), at a genetic distance of four with 111 markers tested. They are 5C. James and Joseph are likely brothers, sons of William Arnold Sr. (abt.1714-aft.1774) who is a grandson of Thomas Arnold (abt.1649-bef.1726). FtDNA probability that they share a relationship within 6 generations is 53.6% and within the last 7 generation is 66.16%

I reset the father's "confirmed with DNA" indicator to "confident" since only the MRCA and his descendants can be confirmed with this Y-DNA test match.
