He was a Civil War veteran having fought for the Confederacy as a private in the 11th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry (State Guards).[1]
Felix passed away in 1886. Burial was in the Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia.[2] He is buried next to a Jannie Yarborough and three graves away from James Yarborough, most likely the man who was living in his household in 1870. Jannie may have been James' daughter.[3]
Research Notes
It appears that he never married. The 1870 census shows household members including a mulatto woman named Harriet and five mulatto children (Allen, Ella, Lucy, Elizabeth, and a one year one just listed as Arnett) were living in the West Side of Flint River, Decatur County, Georgia, in 1870. A 21 year old, James Yarborough, was also living with them, relationship unknown.[4] By 1880, he was listed as single (possibly widowed?) and head of household with three children, Lucy, James and Elizabeth, living in Pine Hill in Decatur County.[5]
"It is my will and pleasure that any of the legatees named in this will that should resort to the courts to set aside, or change any of the bequests in this will, shall be disinherited, and have no interest, or part in my estate whatever."[6][7]
Records are hinting at the possibility that he might have had one or two or more mulatto children. See the 1870 and 1880 census as well as his will. When Lucy Greenlee died in 1930, the informant for her death record stated that she was a daughter of a Felix Arnet.
In his will, he leaves half of his plantation referred to as the Hill place to Lucy Greenlee and half to John Arnett. Both Lucy and John and their descendants are enumerated at various times as mulatto or black or negro or white.
