Laura Grace Alice Arnett, the daughter of traveller Louis Robert Arnett and Grace McGee, was born in Manitoba[1] in 1892.[2] On March 6, 1912, at Toronto's Parkdale Presbyterian Church, she married grain merchant Wilfred Bruce Powers (1887-aft.1921).[3] By 1921, Laura and Wilfred had returned to his hometown of Trenton, where they lived on Dundas St. E. with their daughters Audrey and Carol.[1] (Another daughter Adrienne was to follow.)[4]
They were living in Toronto at the time of their 40th wedding anniversary in March 1952 (Laura wrote, in a letter to cousin Mabel Ray (Adam) Ireland (1886-1958) back in Trenton, "My whole aim is to get out of the City. I can't stand it.") and were still there when Wilf celebrated his 70th birthday in January 1957.[4] Laura died in 1973 and was buried in Trenton's Mount Evergreen Cemetery.[2]
