Nancy Armstrong was born on August 9, 1806 in Pickens, South Carolina, United States, possibly (though not proven) the daughter of Benjamin Armstrong, Jr. and Sarah Sally Reilly.

Nancy (17) married Thomas William Singleton (24) (born on May 4, 1799 in North Carolina, United States; son of Edmond Singleton and Elizabeth Orisby) in 1824 in South Carolina, United States. Their children were:

In 1850, Thos (age 51) lived in Township 5 Pickens, Pickens, South Carolina, United States. Thomas was a farmer with real estate valued at $1,000. Thomas and his wife, Nancy (age 44), lived with their sons, Miles (age 19), laborer, Lebron W. (age 16), William S. (age 10), George W. (age 8), and their daughters, Emiline L. (age 13), and Sarah C. (age 5). Frances Hall (age 17) (female) lived with them (relationship unknown.)[1]

In 1860, Thomas (age 61) lived at 5th Regiment, Pickens, South Carolina, United States. Thomas was a farmer, and owned real estate valued at $1,500 and personal property valued at $500. His wife Nancy (age 54) was born in Pickens, South Carolina, United States. Their sons, William O. (age 20), George W. (age 18), and James T. (age 8), and their daughter, Sarah C. (age 15) lived with them.[2]

In 1870, Thomas (age 75) was the head of household in Dacusville, Pickens, South Carolina, United States.Thomas was a farmer. He lived with his wife, Nancy (age 63), and his sons, George (age 28), a voice teacher, and James (age 18), farm laborer. They lived two houses apart from their son William (age 30) and his family, and next to their son Miles (age 37) and his family. [3]

Nancy died on October 14, 1870 in Pickens, aged 64. She was buried in Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Dacusville, Pickens County, South Carolina.[4]
