Ossy Armstrong is an Anzac who served in World War One.
Oswald was born in May 1892 at or about Geelong in the Colony of Victoria. He was the son of Thomas Armstrong (1855-1910), and Elizabeth Jane Armstrong (1859-1946) nee Spinks.
Oswald Robert Armstrong was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) before his career was interrupted by the First World War. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A28 Miltiades on 1 August 1916. He served with the 14th Infantry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (AIF). While serving he was invited to play for the Australian Training Units team in the famous "Pioneer Exhibition Game" of Australian Rules football, held in London, in October 1916. A news film was taken at the match and his side was defeated by the combined Third Australian Divisional Team.
He was later captured by the Germans in Europe on 11 April 1917, and ended the war as a prisoner of war.
He passed away at Breamlea in Victoria Australia on 1 March 1958 and is buried in the Geelong Eastern Cemetery, Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
