Biography

Thomas was born in 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee.[1] He was the son of Eldridge Armstead and Rowena Pate.[1] He married Josephine Morgan.[1] They had a son, Henry Hunt Armistead.[1] He passed away in 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas.[1]

Thomas Hunt Armistead / FT. WORTH, TX—Thomas Hunt Armistead, 87, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in Forth Worth, Texas. / The funeral service was held Monday, October 3, at eleven o’clock in the morning in First Presbyterian Church, 425 North Main Street, Water Valley. Interment, with military honors, followed the service in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley. Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements. A memorial service was also held in Ft. Worth Friday, September 30. / Born September 28, 1923 in Memphis, Mr. Armistead was a son of the late Eldridge Armistead and Rowena Pate Armistead. He grew up in Water Valley and attended Mississippi State College, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. His college experience was interrupted by World War II, during which he served for three years in the Army as a Sergeant in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge, for which he received the Bronze Star and a Combat Medic Badge. / He used his G.I. Bill after the war to obtain training in aviation as a pilot, flight instructor, ground instructor and an A&E mechanic and obtained an ATR rating. Through his career he was a crop duster and executive and charter pilot. He came to Fort Worth in 1951 as co-pilot for the private plane of the Burnett Estate, working for that company for 12 years. He held similar positions with Champlin Petroleum, Texas Pacific Oil and the Western Company. Upon retirement, he pursued ranching interests in Jack County. / In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldridge Armistead, Jr. and Robert Pate Armistead, and grandparents, Robert Reynolds Pate and Rowena Mabry Pate. / Survivors include his wife, Josephine Morgan Armistead of Ft. Worth; a son, Henry Hunt Armistead of Austin, Texas, three nieces and three nephews. / Memorials may be made to: First Presbyterian Church, 425 N. Main St., Water Valley, MS 38965.[1]
