Roy was born estimated about 1929 the child of Thomas Olmstead and Mary Barentine.
Roy Olmstead is included with the family in the 1940 census as 11 years of age and in third grade in school.
Roy's father "T.J." gave his family name as Almstead when he joined the Army to serve in WW -I; returning to civilian life T.J. reverted to use his original family name Olmstead, When Roy joined the US Army Air Corp. in 1945 at the age of 16-1/2, he claimed his birth year as 1928 though in was actually 1929. He also gave the family name as Almstead.
Roy Almstead married Ellen Jean Masden and they had two children, Eddie and Ronald.
He served in the US Army[1] for 25 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.[2]
Roy died in 1986 and is buried next to his wife in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina.[3]
