"Thomas appeared in Essex County when he married Elizabeth Williamson, daughter of Henry Williamson, an Essex County justice, about May 1699. Elizabeth died a year later." "Thomas married a second time to Susanna ____ (Shelton or variant has been suggested) before 1708. There was son who died in 1707. It appears that the son was a young boy and it cannot be determined whether his mother was Elizabeth or Susanna. At the time Thomas died he had a daughter who had not been baptized but who was later also named Susanna. This Susanna married John Armistead of Gloucester County before 1729. Although both John and Susanna died by 1734 they left descendants. Thomas’ widow remarried twice, had at least one child by her second marriage and died after 1765."

From “Middlesex County Virginia Wills, Inventories & Accounts, 1673-1812” by William Lindsay Hopkins; published in 1989 - added by Jim Miller:

2/3/1700; Page 46 of book above: In the inventory of the estate of Richard Willis, Gent. it is mentioned that he owed debts to a number of persons including THOMAS MERIWETHER; Gawin CORBIN, Gent.; Robert WILLIAMSON; William SKIPWITH; Capt. William BALL; Joseph Micham/MEACHAM?; William CARTER; Thomas BURKE; Sara BATCHELDER; Lt. Col Matthew KEMP (the latter surnames possible merchant families in early Virginia).

5/4/1714; Page 174 of book above: "Deed of Rice Jones to Mrs. Susanna Robinson, late the widow of THOMAS MERWETHER, decd., and SUSANNA MERIWETHER, daughter of THOMAS MERIWETHER, decd."

The above 1714 entry likely indicates THOMAS MERWETHER's wife, Susanna married a Mr. Robinson after Thomas' death. Also the entry indicates that Thomas had a daughter also named SUSANNA MERIWETHER who likely married John Armistead as noted above.

NOTE: There are no other mentions of SUSANNA ROBINSON in the Middlesex Co., VA 1673-1812 documents book noted above; NOR of a SUSANNA ARMISTEAD, the daughter.

It looks like Armistead-1328 of this profile and Armistead-104 are the same person?? I have edited this profile to be in accord with the data that the Meriwether Society has posted about John Armistead, husband of Susanna Meriwether (daughter of Thomas Meriwether).

See: https://wc.rootsweb.com/trees/616922/I352/john-armistead/individual

Armistead-104's data is similar: parents are the same, but death date is quite different. Some info may have been conflated with a different person. See text of his bio.
