Hugh Fitzgerald Arbuthnot was born in Chelsea, London on 2 January 1922. He was the son of Brig.-Gen. Sir Dalrymple Arbuthnot 5th Baronet and Alice Maud Arbuthnot.[1]
He was educated at Kingsmead, Seaford, Sussex and Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire.
Hugh attained the rank of Captain with the Welch Guards.
He fought in the Second World War. Upon the death of his brother Robert in the Second World War, he succeeded as the 7th Baronet Arbuthnot, of Edinburgh [U.K., 1823] on 30 June 1944.
He married Elizabeth Kathleen Williams (daughter of S/Ldr. George Gilbert Algernon Williams and Kathleen Mary Ansell) on 17 August 1949 at Ludlow, Shropshire, England.[2]
They had three children.
Hugh was Master of Foxhounds, Ludlow between 1948 and 1952; he was Master of Foxhounds, Cotswold between 1952 and 1964 and he was Master of Foxhounds, Duke of Buccleuch's between 1964 and 1983.
His wife Elizabeth died in 1972.
He married, secondly, Julia Grace Peake (daughter of Lt.-Col. Frederick Gerald Peake and Elspeth MacLean Ritchie) in 1977.
Hugh died in 1983 at the age of 61.
