Lt. Gavin Arbuthnot BWM was Killed in Action during World War I.

Gavin Campbell Arbuthnott (b. 07 Feb 1893 Kenmore, Aberfeldy, Perthshire - d. 06 Aug 1915 Gelibolu Turkey; bur. 07 Aug), was the son of:^[1][2][3]

• Rev. William Arbuthnott of Lea Marston, Birmingham.^[1][2]
• and Julia Helen Maria Ogilvy Stuart.^[1][2]

He had two sisters:

• Dorothea May Ogilvy (b. 04 May 1889),^[1]
• and Clementina Julia Alma Ogilvy (b. 07 Jul 1890).^[1]

Military

7/ North Staffordshire Regt.

His records file contains many interesting letters surrounding his death including statements from soldiers. He was apparently severely wounded on 6 Aug and evacuated to a hospital ship where he died and was buried at sea the following day (statement by soldier evacuated with him). His Sgt's statement adds Lt Arbuthnot was hit by a shrapnel bullet in the abdomen having just commenced an attack towards Chocolate Hill. He was dressed and evacuated by stretcher to the beach and then to a hospital ship.
