Research Notes

The origins of the name I'Anson appear to be French [2] and the first recording of the name appears to be that of James I'Anson of Hawkswell (or Hauxwell[7]), Yorkshire, England in 1599 [8]. The pronunciation of the name varies and includes; 'eye-and-son'[9] and 'eye-n-son'[10]. There are also many variations of the name. It was sometimes changed to 'Janson' by the family[11]. The burial record for Joshua shows his name as 'Janson'[3].
