Joshua I'Anson was born on 09 May 1700 in Leyburn, Yorkshire, England to parents John and Ann (Hudson) I'Anson[1].
Joshua married Beatrice, daughter of Thomas Hedley from High Moss, Yorkshire, on 22nd February 1730 at Masham, Yorkshire[1].
Around 1749, they moved to Darlington, Durham, England where Joshua worked in the Linen weaving business and they were members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)[2].
Beatrice I'Anson died 29 December 1770[2] and was buried on 31 December 1770 aged 61[1].
Joshua Janson died 25 March 1786[2][3] and was buried in the Friends' Burial Ground, Darlington on 28 March 1786 aged 85.[1][3][4][5][6]
Research Notes
The origins of the name I'Anson appear to be French [2] and the first recording of the name appears to be that of James I'Anson of Hawkswell (or Hauxwell[7]), Yorkshire, England in 1599 [8].
The pronunciation of the name varies and includes; 'eye-and-son'[9] and 'eye-n-son'[10].
There are also many variations of the name. It was sometimes changed to 'Janson' by the family[11]. The burial record for Joshua shows his name as 'Janson'[3].
