Biography

Elizabeth Ankrom was born on 27 Jun 1844 in Jackson, Ohio to parents John W Ankrom and Ruth Ankrom. His parents were second cousins.

In 1850 she was age 6 and living with her parents and siblings in Jackson, Vinton, Ohio. Her father was a farmer.^[1]

At age 16 in 1860 she was living in the home of the Jesse Kennedy family in Jackson, Vinton, Ohio.^[2]

She married firstly Samuel Clinton Graves on Christmas Day, 25 Dec 1867 in Vinton, Ohio. Elizabeth was age 23 and Samuel was age 26.^[3][4]

In 1870 she was age 25, married, and living with her husband and sons George A and Thomas J. There was another child in the home, Hi Murry, age 6, listed as a pauper. Her husband was a farm laborer.^[14]

In 1880 she was age 35 and living with her husband and four sons, George, William, Henry, and John in Harrison, Vinton, Ohio. Her husband was a farm laborer.^[15]

In 1910 she was a widow, aged 65, living with her son Oscar, a widower at age 34, and his two young daughters. Oscar was a farm laborer.^[16]

After her husband Samuel died in 1892 she married secondly James R Scott, the widower of her 2nd cousin Mary Ann Ankrom, as his second wife, at an unknown date after 1910 in Vinton, Ohio. James died in 1912. It appears Elizabeth kept her first husband's surname of Graves.

In 1920 she was age 75, widowed, and living with her son Oscar and his daughter Cora E in Ross, Ohio.^[17]

Elizabeth died on 21 Jan 1923 in Liberty Township, Ross, Ohio, and was buried in the Log Pile Church, Richland Township, Vinton, Ohio on 23 Jan 1923.^[18][19]
