Biography

Private Archibald Ankrim served with Lancaster County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Archibald Ankrim was born in 1730. He passed away in 1800.

Archibald Ankrim was one of the first settlers in Lancaster county, and settled on a property adjoining that afterward bought by his son.

August 29, Thursday Washington retreats during the night from Long Island to New York City. The Council of Safety ordered 100 stand of arms for the use of Col. Porter's Battalion. Captain Thomas Morrison of Porter's Battalion was allowed 25-2-6 for mileage of 67 men for 90 miles and 6-10s for a rifle. They ordered 8 Camp Kettles for Col. Ferree's men and 27 Kettles for Major Ewen of Porter's Battalion. (73) The Committee of Safety ordered payment to Captain Andrew Bean for arms purchased for his company (to be charged to Col. Ferree) and to Captain John Withers, also of Ferree's Battalion, for the use of Wither's company.
