Biography

Nicolas Sr. was born before 1671 in the town of Vesly, Manche, Lower Normandy, France. He passed away before 1743.

He only appears in the available Church records on a few occasions, including those listed below. There is no record of him in the books after 1700. If he or his wife (Marie LeFort) had died in the Vesly area then there should be a record of those events but nothing has been found.

Nicolas Jr., their only known child, indicates in his various records that he/his family was from Vesly & that he was born around 1716, but he does not appear in the Vesly records either. The Church records for that time period were clear, detailed & accurate, so he should be there (if he was born in Vesly).

It is clear that his extended family were from Vesly, but he was probably born elsewhere. Nicolas first shows up in the official records in St. Pierre du Nord, Isle St. Jean in Acadia when he was married on 30 Oct 1743 to Anne Galais.

There are a couple of basic questions: Did his parents relocate to Acadia sometime after 1700? Was he born in Acadia? There are many mysteries that remain to be solved!
