Biography

1776 Project
Private Silas Angier served with 9th Regiment, New Hampshire Militia during the American Revolution.

Silas Angier, the son of Benjamin and Sarah Angier, was born in Marlborough, Middlesex, Massachusetts, on 9 Oct 1737.[1]

Elizabeth Drury and Silas Angier were married. They had at least the following children:

  • Sally
  • Benjamin, b. 27 May 1762 at Framingham[2], or at Temple, Hillsborough, New Hampshire[3]
  • Sibbel, bpt. 15 May 1764 Framingham or 1768 Temple
  • Betty or Betsey, b. 15 Sept 1768, Temple; bpt. 1 Oct 1769
  • Joel, bpt. 4 Nov 1770 Framingham
  • Silas, b. 19 April 1766 Temple

Silas served from New Hampshire during the Revolutionary War.[4]Silas served as a private in Col. Enoch Hales Regiment of Militia, which marched to Ticonderoga under the command of Captain Josiah Brown to reinforce the Continental Army there. He served May 8 until released 43 days later.[5]

Silas Angier is listed on the payroll in Captain Gershom Drury's Company which marched from Temple, under the command of Lt. Col. THomas Heald, to reinforce the Continental Army at Ticonderoga in June 1777. He served for 10 days from June 29 until discharged on July 12.[6]

He served again in Captain Gershom Drury's Company of Militia from Temple, which marched with Col. Daniel Moore's Regiment on 29 Sept 1777 and joined the northern Continental Army at Saratoga. He served for 28 days from September 29 until October 26.[7]

Silas Angier died on 6 Oct 1808 and is buried at the Village Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, Cheshire, New Hampshire.[8] His military gravestone was erected in 1961.[9]
