Biography

Benjamin Andros,(of John2, John1) born at Ipswich, MA 13 Apr 1685; died at Norwich, CT about 1769; married at Norwich CT, Ann Mix, born there 7 May 1694, dau. of Thomas and Hannah (Fitch) Mix (Meeks). Children: Zebediah, bapt. 23 Aug 1719. (p. 108-9)

Captain Zebediah Andrus, baptized in the First Church, Norwich, CT on 23 Aug. 1719; died at Pawlet, VT 26 July 1804; married 19 Dec. 1737, Elizabeth Swan of North Stonington who died at Pawlet 29 Aug. 1789, ae 74, daughter of Capt. John and Susanna (Eastman)(Wood) Swan of Haverhill, MA. Note Susanna was captured twice by the Indians. (p. 112)

  • Captain of the Fifth Company of Foot Third Regiment 1761.

On 5 Feb 1777 he sold to William Coit, for 550L about 103 acres of land in Long Society being the whole of the farm which was given me by my Honored father Benjamin Andrus, deceased. About 1784 he removed with his family to Pawlet, VT. (p. 112)

In his will dated at Pawlet, 24 Sept. 1803, he mentions two sons Asa and Zebediah; granddaughter Betsey Andrus, daughter of son William, deceased, when she shall reach lawful age; grandson Allen Andrus, son of son William deceased, to whom he leaves $100 at lawful age; and daughter Elizabeth Denison. His son Zebediah was named as executor. (p. 112)

Asa, b. at Norwich in 1742; d. at Pawlet, VT 12 Jan. 1821; m. 10 Jan. 1765, Mary Pride of Norwich, dau. of Herbert Pride. He was sergeant in the Revolutionary War in Capt. John Durkee's company. (p. 201)

Zebadiah, b at Norwich in 1744; d. at Pawlet, VT in 1830, aged 86; m. his second cousin Judith Andrus born in 1756; died at Mt. Tabor, VT in 1850, aged 94. (p. 201)

Elizabeth, b. in 1748; d. at Richmond, NY 11 June 1826; m. in Nov 1768, Daniel Denison of Stonington who d. at Pawlet, VT 15 Oct. 1802. They lived in Vermont, at Knox, NY, in Canada, and then at Pawlet, VT. (p. 112)[1]

John Swan, born August 1, 1668; m. Susannah Eastman Wood widow, August 1, 1699. She was born 1673; d. December 20, 1772. They lived in Haverhill until 1708, when they removed to Stonington, CT. Children: Elizabeth Swan, b. May 14, 1715; m. Jedadiah Andross, December 19, 1739. (p. 214-215) The [2]

Capt Zebediah Andrus Sen. from Norwich, CT; 1784 settled on what is now (1867) the homestead of David R. Smith. He died in 1804 aged 86, his wife died 1789 aged 74.(p. 159-160)[3]

Zebediah Andrus Death: Jul. 26, 1804 Pawlet

Inscription: In memory of Capt. Zebediah Andruh [sic] who died July 26 AD 1804 in the 86 Year of his age.

The graves of all the saints be blessed, And soften'd every bed. Where should the dying members rest, But with their dying head.[4]
