Hi, Marian. I proposed a merge between Augustus Harris (Harris-27322) and John Augustin Harris (Harris-21035). If you look at the sources on Harris-27322 I think you'll be satisfied that they're the same man. Curiously, despite him being called 'John Augustin' in a lot of family trees online, I haven't found a single primary source that gives him the first name John, he is always called Augustine or Augustus.

Thanks, but it is such an obscure line (my uncle's second wife's ancestors), that I am not all that interested. I just tend to follow lines off into infinity ad forget that they are not really part of my family.

That's fine but the merge still needs your approval to proceed, as you're the profile manager of Harris-21035.

Edit: Forgot to mention Harris-21034 is also connected in a merge that needs your approval to proceed. She's his daughter.

Sorry, I could not find the Augustus Harris, so I thought they were already merged. I don't know how to do these. I just add names and dates.

Hi Marian!

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Sources are very important here on Wikitree, especially on Pre-1700 profiles. It is how we show where we got the info and help others find it too. Find out more about sources here and more detailed info here.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. If you have any questions, be sure to use the "reply link" for this comment so that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

Hi Marian,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi Marion, I realized you have been putting the full name of your profiles in the the first name slot. We have multiple slots for the names. You have the First name, middle name, Last name at birth (LNAB), current last name name (such as married name) and then Nickname/preferred name.

Thanks!

Hello Marian,

Feel very welcome to WikiTree! I hope you will like it here as much as I do.

The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team! Feel free to explore WikiTree, and we hope you will help us to grow our BIG three!

When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests at the tags (green boxes).

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
