William Andrews was born in 1798. William emigrated to NZ aboard the Bolton, which sailed from Gravesend 29th October 1841 and Isle of White 2nd November 1841 - arrived Nelson 15 March 1842. With him were his 2nd wife Mary Ann (nee PEAD) age 33, and sons Joseph 18 a Mason, Thomas 16 a Mason, John 11, William 5, George 1. His eldest son Charles (19 or 20) also a mason and quarryman, and his newly married daughter in law Lucy (18) were also aboard ... William passed away in 1873 age 75 William's grandson, Sir Ernest Andrews, records in his memoirs 'Eventful Years', that his grandfather had a brother Robert who emigrated to Sydney, Australia, and had a descendant, Tom Andrews, a cricketer. He also mentions James Andrews another relative as Prime Minister of Ulster, but does not note the connection. Andrews Centenary publication records the he fathered a total of 18 children. William was a Wesleyan preacher both before and after he immigrated to New Zealand.
