Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

Elizabeth Anderton was born on 13 Feb 1887 in Sutton, St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Johnson Anderton and Elizabeth (Ball) Anderton. She had a sister Mary Ann, two years older than her.

By April 5th 1891, Elizabeth's mother had died. She, her sister and their father were living with her paternal grandmother in Sutton. Two uncles and an aunt were also in the household.

By March 31st 1901, Elizabeth was fourteen and in service (as a housemaid) in Sutton.

Elizabeth hasn't yet been located in the 1911 census, but she wasn't married yet and can't have been too far from home, because her marriage to James Dixon was registered in the third quarter of 1911 in Prescot district - they were married at Our Lady and St Nicholas' Church in Liverpool.

Their son Rex Dixon was born on 11 May 1914 in St Helens.

Elizabeth died in 1972 in St Helens.

James died in 1974 in St Helens.
