Biography

John Leroy Anderson was born on 12 July 1884 in Laclede County, Missouri, United States. He was the second child of George Anderson and Catherine Elizabeth Doty.[1][2] He was enumerated with his parents and siblings during the 1900 census, living on a farm in Union Township, Wright County, Missouri.[3]

He married Sarah Lorena Linder, age 14 years, on 11 April 1907 at her home in Marshfield, Webster County, Missouri. Their marriage was performed by John B. Scott, a minister of the LDS church, after receiving permission from Sarah's father in writing.[4][5]

They had ten children:[2]

  8. Mildred Nellie Anderson (1922 - 2002)[16][17]
  9. John LeRoy Anderson Jr. (1930 - 1989)[18][19]
  10. George Dell Anderson (poss.)[20]

John and Sarah and their children were enumerated during the 1910 census, living at their farm in High Prairie Township, Webster County, Missouri.[6]

He registered for the draft during The Great War, in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri, at age 34 years. He was living in Grandview at the time. John was described as being of medium height and build, with dark brown eyes and black hair.[21]

During the 1920 and 1930 censuses, they were living in Washington Township, Jackson County.[10][16] Between 1935 and 1940 they moved to a farm in Montgomery Township, Hickory County, Missouri.[18] By 1950 he was unable to work, and his son John Jr. was working the farm.[22]

John died on 10 June 1952 at his home a few miles north of Wheatland in Hickory County, and was buried in the Pleasant Grove Church cemetery.[2][23]
