Biography

Elizabeth Anderson was born about 1840 in Pennsylvania, United States of America.^[1] She was the daughter of John Anderson and Harriet Dravo.^[2] Her father was killed at his job as a toll collector on a bridge in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1844, when Elizbeth was about 4 years old.^[3][4] Elizabeth grew up in Pittsburgh with her mother and five siblings.^[5][6]

Elizabeth married Theodore A Kammerer around 1860. They had two daughters, Hattie (Kammerer) Walter and Florence Belle Kammerer.^[7] In 1870 and 1880, they lived in Pittsburgh with Elizabeth's brother Robert J Anderson and their mother Harriet Anderson.^[8][9]

Elizabeth died on 18 Feb 1881 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, ^[10][11]

Research Notes

• Parents: No records have been found that directly name Elizabeth's parents. However, the following records indicate that they were named John Anderson and Harriet Dravo:
  • Her husband's obitaury says she was the "sister of the late Robert J. Anderson, the steel manufacturer and granddaughter of the late Anthony Dravo."^[7] Her brother Robert J. Anderson's obituary states that he was the "son of John Anderson and Elizabeth Dravo...His father while an empolye [sic] of the old Hand now Ninth Street Bridge Company, was murdered by a gang of toughs."^[3] Both of these obituaries indicate that Elizabeth's mother's maiden name was Dravo. Her brother's obituary states their parents are John and Elizabeth (Dravo) Anderson.
  • Elizabeth and her brother Robert were always in the same household in the 1850-1880 censuses.^[5][6][8] In all of these records, they also lived with an older woman named Harriet who is listed as Robert's mother in the 1880 census.^[9] Therefore, it seems that their mother was named Harriet, not Elizabeth as Robert's obituary states.
  • Anthony Dravo's will, signed in 1849, leaves property to "my daughter Harriet wife of John Anderson deceased".^[12] This further supports the hypothesis that Elizabeth's mother was named Harriet Dravo, and supporting her husband's obituary's statement that her grandfather was Anthony Dravo.
