Biography

Axel Christian Anderson, Seaman, USN, was born about 1873 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He enlisted in the US Navy on Aug 8, 1895 in New York. Axel was serving aboard the USS Maine in Feb of 1898 when the ship was sent to Cuba protect U.S. interests during the Cuban revolt. The ship exploded in Havana Harbor, Cuba on Feb 15, 1898 killing him and about 3/4ths of the crew. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia.
