Bruce Anderson was a soldier in the Union Army during the U.S. Civil War. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, for his heroism during the Second Battle of Fort Fisher.[1]

Bruce was born in Mexico on Jun 19, 1845. He died in Albany, Albany County, New York on Aug 22, 1922.[2][1]

Medal of Honor Citation

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private Bruce Anderson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 15 January 1865, while serving with Company K, 142d New York Infantry, in action at Fort Fisher, North Carolina. Private Anderson voluntarily advanced with the head of the column and cut down the palisading.[3][1]

He married Julia Catherine James (grand-niece of the Rev. Thomas James) on 10 Sep 1884 in Fultonville, New York, USA. He was stepfather to her son, Harvey Howard.[4] Julia and Bruce had these four children and possibly one who died young.
