Iona (Myers) Harris

George Washington Mitchell was my 3X grandfather and although Jane W Cathey was my grandmother, I still am interested in Ann Anderson. I found a marriage contract for George and Jeany/Jane Craig dated 7 Oct 1803 in Orange County, North Carolina. I also have found several "trees" that list a daughter Margaret born 14 Feb 1804 in North Carolina to them. I cannot find proof of this or any more information about Margaret. I am thinking that perhaps Jeany and daughter died during or shortly after childbirth. The next info I found states that George married Ann Anderson in 1804(again no proof found).

But this makes sense as their first child was named Anderson Craig Mitchell. It was custom to give mothers maiden name to first born son as his given name and it makes sense to me that in honor of first wife was given her maiden name as his middle name. Does anyone have any idea or proof (either pro or con) of these events? Thanks for your help. Iona Myers-Harris
